Corporate Blogging: A new marketing communication tool for companies

Hi, everyone. Today i will talk about corporate blogging, which is a powerful new marketing communication tool for companies in Malaysia. First and for most, what is corporate blogging? Well, Corporate blog is actually a web blog used and published by an organisation to achieve its organisational goals. Corporate blogs usually classified into external or internal corporate blog. Nowadays, 89% of the companies' blogs are mainly for external communication. Most of the weblog are used as a marketing tool and not so much as a tool to get a conversation going within the companies, for internal communication or for community building. The picture above is Debbie Weill singing for the promotion of corporate blogging.

How does really corporate blogging functions as a marketing communication tool? Well, corporate blogging will typically improve the marketing techniques by allowing companies to talk to their clients or customers directly, and also allowing companies to listen to what customers are saying. Companies can understand and study their customers satisfaction towards the companies' performances or services through corporate blogging. Therefore, corporate blogging is very useful and reliable because it interacts directly between the companies and the customers.

Somehow, there are very few companies tend to use corporate blogging as a new marketing communication tool even though, they recognized that blogs are a very significant, effective, and efficient communication tool. This is due to a lack of knowledge about corporate blogging, a fear of risk, and repercussions.

Thank you.

A review of a post on Legal from My E-Commerce blog

Today, we will discuss a post on My Ecommerce about legal. The post discuss about the United Kingdom Government intends to propose a new law that to cut the internet connection of illegal downloader.

According to information, around 6 million people download files illegally in UK. This fact heavily affects the revenue of such entertainment and creative industries. They lost million of money due to illegal download.

Besides, all Internet Service Provider (ISP) should support and help to enforce this new law. Any ISP failed to enforce these rules could be prosecuted, and those customers suspected of making illegal downloads would made available to the courts.

Although this new rules would benefit some industries, but I doubt that implementing this rules may face some problem. First of all, I doubt that ISP is possible and able to monitor their client’s internet access, monitor what website they visit, what data they are downloading, and every single packet of data transferred. And how ISP determine which website is illegal platform.

Although ISP has the technology or technique to obtain these data, can it proceed to monitor client. Those actions relate to the privacy of client, and they should be protected under data protection law. Furthermore, ISP may incur more expenses on this further action in order to enforce new rules.

E-Government in Malaysia: Its implementation so far and citizen's adoption strategies

-Government in Malaysia is quite new. This huge E-Government started in 1997 with the launch of the MSC (Multimedia Super Corridor). This online service started to become more popular these 3 years. We can see how the government is always promoting the E-Government these years through various types of media. The website for the government is http://www.gov.my/. Inside the webpage, we can view a lot of services that provided by the government including the online services. The e-government in Malaysia provided quite a lot of services such as e-Filling, Renewing Road Tax, Driving License online and e-Perolehan. All these services provide a lot of convenience to the citizens. They can use those applications through internet without having the trouble to go out of their house and queue up to perform these services.

However, the government should improve the E-Government they are currently using in order to attract more customers or citizens. There are a few of troubles that faced by the citizens while they are trying to use the E-Government. First of all, the E-Government is not very user-friendly. Senior citizens who are not expert in technology materials may find it hard to perform the E-Government service. Besides that, there are few complains that I heard is that the respond from the E-Government is not very effective and cannot compare with some private institutions. Below is one of the webpage from the government website, which shows some online services.

In order to encourage more citizens to use the E-government, the government should firstly solve the problems that encountered by most of the citizens while they are using the webpage. Other than that, the government can provide some offers which are available through the e-government. Lastly the government can explain to the citizens about the benefits of using E-government.

Things to take note to prevent e-auction fraud when a consumer participating in an e-auction

Auctions are common in markets where the goods sold are valuable or when their prices can't be easily determined. The process of an auction aims to find a fair price for the goods by identifying buyers who need them the most. Such auctions are called forward auctions. In forward auctions buyers compete with each other by placing bids for the goods to be sold. Electronic auction (e-auctions) is auctions conducted through online.

There are some prevention methods for e-auction frauds such as:

  • Escrow services. An escrow service is a licensed and regulated company that collects, holds, and sends a buyer's money to a seller according to instructions agreed on by both the buyer and seller. Typically, once the buyer receives and approves the item from the seller within an agreed time frame, the escrow service then sends the payment to the seller.

  • Authentication service. Product authentication is a way of determining whether an item is genuine and described appropriately. Authentication is very difficult to perform because it relies on the expertise of the authenticators. Based on their training and experience, experts can often detect counterfeits based on subtle details. However, two expert authenticators may have different opinions about the authenticity of the same item.

  • Verification system. Through verification, third parties will evaluate and identify an item through a variety of means. For example, some collectors have their item “DNA tagged” for identification purposes. This is a way of tracking an item if it changes ownership in the future.

  • Feedback Forum. Feedback Forum allows registered buyers and sellers to build up their online trading reputations. It provides users with the ability to comment on their experiences with other individuals.

  • Appraisal services. Appraisers use a variety of methods to appraise items, including expert assessment of authenticity and condition and reviewing what comparable items have sold for in the marketplace in recent months. An appraised value is usually accurate at the time of appraisal but may change over time as an item becomes more or less popular in the marketplace.

Credit card debts: Causes and preventions

Hi, everyone. I am here to write a blog about credit card debts. There are many causes for credit card debts. The first cause is credit card holders do not repay the minimum payment required. As a consequence, missed payments may result in refusal of credit cards at retailers until the payment is cleared. Additionally, it will affect the credit rating of the holders. The second cause is credit card holders keep on spending and spending by using credit cards without any hestitation. As we know, spending on credit card is borrowing money and it must be repaid at some point. If the holders failed to made the payments in times, the amount they spent will be accumulated and thereafter, it will become the holders' credit card debts.

However, there are a few ways to avoid or prevent credit card debts. Those ways are as follow:

1)Use credit card only as your temporary measure, not lifestyle.
2)Pay off high rate debt first.
3)Avoid cash advances.
4)Do not use more than eight cards at one time.
5)Pay off your balance each month.
6)Try to get online account access.
7)Choose a lower limit of credit cards.

Electronic Currency

Electronic currency is also known as electronic money, electronic cash, digital money and else. It refers to money which exchanged only electronically. One of the relevant systems is called BitPass. BitPass is a prepaid account that allows everyone purchases digital content and services. It was a California corporation with headquarter in Silicon Valley and founded in December, 2002.

It was partnered with few major technology and financial companies such as Microsoft, PayPal and the Royal Bank of Scotland. Content buyer signed up for the service and put money into an account by using credit card or PayPal, and this stored-value amount could be used to purchase digital content or services.

On 19th January, 2007 BitPass have sent mass of email to announce that they were shut down and operation officially closed on 26th January. Any unspent monies should be spent within 7 days period. Later on, the remaining unspent monies were refunded by its partner, Digital River to respective account holder.

Although BitPass did not announce the reason, we normally presumed that it was due to cash flow problem. We noticed that BitPass has invested 13 million in 2004 but their business model had few takers only and its transaction volume never ramped to sustainable levels.

The application of prepaid cash card for consumers

A Cash Card enables the holder to make purchases and have them deducted from the card's available balance. Prepaid cash cards are considered the most secure and safe financial transaction card. A cash card may be branded with a major credit card issuer's logo, such as American Express, VISA, or MasterCard, which enables the holder to make purchases wherever those cards are accepted. Cash cards may be convenient for the card holder, the real benefit belongs to the card issuer. It is because the cards are pre-paid, the issuer gets immediate use of all the money that was used to fund the card, even if the cardholder takes months to spend it all.

Touch n Go is one of the prepaid cash card as the sole electronic payment system (EPS). It is can be used at all highways in Malaysia, major public transports in Klang Valley, selected parking sites and theme park. The Touch n Go systems are designed to process up to 800 vehicles per hour so that the user no longer need to prepare for small change or wait in queue at the cash lane to complete the transaction. By using this card it is much more convenient for the user.

The Octopus card which was used in Hong Kong is much more similar to Touch n Go card. However the Touch n Go card can only be used in certain areas, compare to Octopus card it can be used in restaurants, convenience stores such as 7-11, Circle K, supermarkets, fast food outlets and even public telephone booths. Most of the Hongkies are using this card because its user friendly.

Usage of prepaid cash card in other countries it's quite popular for example Singaporeans are using EZ-Link cards and as in India they are using Itzcash cards. Due to convenience, the people may not need to carry a lot of cash when they hang out because it’s quite bulky and it may not attract thieves. No interest should be paid by using prepaid cash card compare to credit cards. It can also control the overspending of consumers because it is a top up card. Unlike credit cards, a particular person can owns unlimited cards. How are they going to settle the credit cards bills?

Mobile payment systems in Malaysia : its potentials and consumers' adoption strategies

Mobile payment system is not quite well known in Malaysia. Perhaps, I also first time get to know this term. According to the definition from wikipedia, mobile payment is the collection of money from a consumer through a mobile device such as mobile phone, smartPhone or Personal Digital Assistant (PDA). Through this system, we can sms the mobile money to anyone at anytime in anywhere. This system can bring a lot of benefits to everyone especially those who seldom or rarely go out.

As nowadays the petrol price is keeping on increase, the transportation cost will increase directly. Therefore it would be very troublesome and costly if we need to go to the nearest bank to have any transaction. In order to reduce those unnecessary works, this type of payment is introduced. Therefore in the moment where the petrol price is keeping increase, the mobile payment system will become more popular and being used. This reveals that this system has a very bright prospect in the future. Currently, Celcom is providing the mobile payment service in Malaysia. For further detail information about mobile payment service provided by Celcom, you all can go to the webpage of Celcom to ask for further information. Besides that, you all can click on the link below to understand or know more about the mobile payment available in Malaysia that is MM Wallet.

In order for more people practice mobile payment system in Malaysia, there should be more companies in Malaysia that can accept the mobile payment. Furthermore, the service provided should be ensured that the system is very secure and everyone can use the system without having any doubts or worry of the security problem. Other than that, this new type of payment system should be introduced to the public by using all types of media. This will be the fastest way to notify the citizens about the new and efficient payment system that is available.

A Review on a post on Internet Security from My E-Commerce

Among those 26 posts about internet security in My E-Commerce, I have chosen the latest post which discuss about malware. It is a shocking news that more than one million viruses, worms and trojans in circulation in year 2007. And according to Symantec report, almost two third of all malicious code threats currently detected were created during 2007. Besides, F-Secure mentioned a doubling increase in the number of malware, and believed this condition getting worse in the future. The main reason of the increase is cyber criminals pump out the malware to fool the anti-virus programs. Besides, vast majority of malware programs are aimed at Windows machine.

These malware programs can copy itself and infect computer, and perform certain program which in fact is carrying a hidden virus and worm. It can be introduced through removable media, internet, network and email. And it is impossible that to isolate these sources in order to avoid getting and spreading computer viruses. If you do so, you will live or doing business just like 10 years ago.

There are few options to protect your computer against computer viruses. First of all, you need good anti-virus software and update the definitions weekly or daily. Then, be aware or put extra suspicion on those emails and attachment you received, scan it before you open it. Besides, scan any CD or removable storage you receive. Furthermore, it is time for you to backup your data. It is easy, cheap and would not cost you a lot of money. Do it now before you regret.

Threat of online security

Hi, everyone. Welcome to my third blog. Today i will give some information about the threat of online security and the ways to avoid online security threats and online frauds. According to my findings, phishing is one of the most serious online security threats nowadays. Basically, it means an attemptmade by a fraudster, to steal confidential information from innocent victim. In most of the cases, fraudster will create a clone website that looks very similar to the web page of a bank or financial institutions. The victims is asked to click a link on an email which is linked to the clone website created by them. This link allows them to all the confidential information. Once they get all the particular confidential and important information, they will redraw all the victim's money in the banks with ease.

Now, i would like to share some ways to avoid online security threats and online frauds.
1) When you received a fraudulent email informing u that you have won a million dollar lottery prize, please do not fall for this gimmick because this is not true.

2) Make sure you dont click on any unknown websites or links as they may be harmful.

3) Make sure you keep all your confidential information safely.

How to safeguard our personal and financial data

Everyone who uses the computer will mostly keep their personal data and financial data in the computer. This is because many data can be stored inside the computer easily. However, this important data might be stolen by others (hackers) when the person surfs the internet by using the computer. Besides that, anyone can easily get access to the computer and knew the important data if the computer has no any security. This may cause undesirable activities occur such as important data of customer being stolen, personal financial data or code being stolen and personal data being manipulated. Therefore steps should be taken to safeguard all important data.

The first method to safeguard the data is by authentication. By using authentication, a person requires to verify himself in order to get access to a particular database. For example, a smart card is needed in order to access to a database. Thus not everyone is able to access to the database. Other than that, data can be safeguarded by authorization method. We can set a password in order to access a database. So, if there is anyone who wants to access to the database required to type the password set by the user. A password with above 5 characters is necessary to make it difficult for any third party to guess the password.

The third method of securing data is through non-repudiation. It ensures that a party in the dispute cannot refute a transaction that had occurred. This is necessary especially to the business people. Moreover, installing a firewall can also safeguard the computer from being hacked and important data being stolen. There are many firewalls available from the internet and it is free too. However it is advisable to use a subscribe firewall in order to get a better protection over the network. Firewall should be installed if the user will surf the internet quite often.

Above are some ways for safeguarding our important data. It is very essential so that our important data would not leak away. Prevention is better than cure. Therefore it is better to safeguard our data before it is being stolen.

The examples of phishing and its prevention methods

Phishing is a con game that scammers use to collect personal information from unsuspecting users by sending out e-mails that appear to come from legitimate websites such as eBay, PayPal, or other banking institutions. The e-mails will ask you to enter your full name, address, phone number, social security number and credit card number.

The examples of phishing schemes include:

  • Fake e-mail messages from what appears to be from a company you do business with warning you that they need to verify your account information or your account will be suspended.

  • A combination of auction fraud and fake escrow sites. This occurs when items are put up for sale at a legitimate online auction to lure you into making payments to a fake escrow site.

  • A false online sales transaction, whereby a phisher offers to buy something from you and requests that they pay you an amount well over the price of the item they are buying. Therefore, you send your bank account number, bank routing code, address and phone number to them.

  • Fake charities asking you for money. Unfortunately, many criminals take advantage of your goodwill.

Steps to prevent from being phished:

  • When it comes to filtering out spam, Gmail is at the top of the line. Google offers infinitely better spam protection than AOL or Yahoo.

  • Never follow links in an email claiming to be from your bank. Ignore these types of emails. Banking institutions never ask you to verify your online banking username and password.

  • The website linked to in the email may ask you to enter your username and password. Do not do this until you have verified you are dealing with your banking institution. Call customer service and ask if this is a common practice.

  • The next step in protection is to install a good Anti-Virus and firewall.

  • Adjust you browser settings to tighten up security especially if you use web based email. If you receive an email with a bad link in it, add the link to your 'Restricted Sites'.

The history and evolution of E-commerce

Hi to all my dearest friends. Welcome to my second post and thanks for reviewing my post. Today, i would like to share a very interesting fact with all of you. I guess most of you will have plenty of questions about E-commerce, right? Questions such as do all of you know what is E-commerce, how does E-commerce function, what is the history and evolution of E-commerce are filling in the minds now. Well,I will explain all the uncertainties to all of you. Electronic commerce is a growing aspect of business community that formally in the use of digital transactions between and among businesses and individuals. In other words, E-commerce is in the use of the Internet to conduct business.

Next, let me explain on the history and evolution of E-commerce. E-commerce is initially emerged from the Electronic Data Interchange (EDI). There are several important steps involved in the history of E-commerce. The first step came from the development of EDI. EDI is a set of standard that created in the 1960's for the purpose of exchanging business information and do electronic transactions. At first there is several dissimilar EDI formats that can be used and this disallows companies to interact with each other, but in 1984 the ASC X12 standard become stable n reliable in transferring large volume of transactions.

The second step happens in 1992 when the Mosaic web-browser which was the first "point and click" browser was made available. Mosaic web-browser quickly adapt itself into Netscape, a download able browser that allow easier access to E-commerce. The third step is the development of DSL. The development of DSL is very important to the evolution of E-commerce because it allows faster access and a persistent connection to the Internet. Christmas of 1998 and development of Red Hat Linux were two of the major steps in the evolution of E-commerce.

However, most critical step was in the year 2000, when a major merger was created between Time Warner and AOL. The merger which worth $350 millions was brought together a major online company with a traditional company. Unfortunately, in February 2000, some major players of E-commerce such as Yahoo,Amazon and etc were attacked by hackers.

Today, the largest E-commerce is Business to Business (B2B). Other varieties growing today are Consumer to Consumer(C2C), and Peer to Peer(P2P). Lastly, i wish this post will give some knowledge to all of you about E-commerce. Please stay tune for more interesting fact from me. Thanks you.

How does E-Commerce Reduce Cycle Time, Improve Employees' Empowerment and Facilitate Customer Support

Due to the booming usage of internet, E-Commerce is getting usual in our life. And now, its advantages will be discussed in this post.

Reduce cycle time
As we known, E-Commerce is designed as paperless based workflow with faster, more efficient and reliable communication between computers. And website can remain open 24 hours, it would not affected by the boundaries of geography and other barriers. So, E-Commerce reduces the unnecessary phone calls and mailings, electronic data exchange allows business to continue outside the normal business day. Besides, employees are allowed to access customer inventory data to decide whether to place order. As a result, it could reduce its cycle time from the stage of purchasing to delivery. Furthermore, all these stages can be monitored, and the orders can be easily passed and processed to other related department. For example,

Improve Employees' empowerment
Empowerment is defined as giving authority to employees in decision making in order to improve operation and quality, reduce costs without consulting manager. In Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) system, employees are given authority to access customer database to obtain relevant information. If customer's inventory below minimum level, employee will place the order. Besides, employees are allowed to verify order received and checking customer's credibility.

Facilitate customer support

Nowadays, efficient customer support is vital to E-Commerce business. Sometimes, merely publishing online catalog and offer a list of frequently asked questions will not satisfy online customer needs. So, immediate response to customer is viewed as important task of company. Since the company has shared database, employees can obtain customer and relevant information immediately in order to solve problem. Besides, customer can trace its product in which stage of production through seller’s website. For example, Dell provides this function to their customer to trace product. Moreover, customer can download relevant software from Dell website. It helps customer solve their problem.

An example of an E-Commerce failure and its causes

At the year of Millennium, dotcom which is one of the examples of e commerce face a huge doom in loss. This internet company was in such a rush to go public that forgot one small detail which is a sound business plan. Profitability couldn’t be reached due to a lot of investment capital was poorly spent on planned companies. Poor Human Resources management did occur as well. Due to lots of cash in their hands, this company hired too many staffs or even worse, hired unqualified staffs. The hiring of friends and relatives often returned no value on investments.

In addition, poor financial management did occur in Dotcom Company. It is because they provide free foods for customers and even the employees. They did build fancy offices which cost massive amount which doesn’t make any gain to the company. There are even hundreds of errors could be found in just one web page of dotcom. Many customers did complain about the incorrect price and even the length and weight of the online products. Therefore customer dissatisfaction occurs and this company has to pay back to customers in return of cash. Lack of advertising gives a poor result for this company. Nobody even knows this company really exists.

Example of an E-commerce success and its causes

E-commerce is defined as business activities conducted using electronic data transmission technologies, such as those used on the internet. E-commerce is basically very broad and brings numerous advantages to the users of internet. One of the E-commerce successes is Yahoo!. Yahoo began from a hobby and then developed into a global brand that has changed the way people communicate, search and access information cum purchase stuff. David Filo and Jerry Yang who found yahoo started their yahoo journey since Feb 1994. The main purpose at that time was to provide a way to keep track of their personal interests on the Internet. That was how Yahoo started. In 1994, Yahoo had its first one million-hit day. Later in April 1995, the founders agreed to fund Yahoo with capital nearly $2 million.

Nowadays, Yahoo is one of the most popular E-commerce companies in the world. Yahoo offers a variety of network services to more than 345 million individuals each month worldwide. Yahoo’s revenue is increasing from day to day. The revenues for yahoo that I get from the internet are as follows:

The main success of Yahoo is due to the strategic planning by the people involved. Yahoo provides search engine for everyone who uses Yahoo. Besides that, the information uploaded on Yahoo is up-to-date. Therefore, many people visit Yahoo everyday and increase Yahoo attractiveness toward marketing services such as advertisement. Furthermore, the friendly interface of Yahoo contributes to its successful. Yahoo knows the demand of its client and designed to suit the client needs.
